Chicago Volunteer Legal Services (CVLS) is a great pro bono organization located in the city, that I like to do on-going volunteer work for. Very supportive and client focused, I've handled a number of pro bono adult guardianship cases for them, and its always been a positive experience.A lot of these cases tend to be fairly complicated, and working with CVLS is probably the best way to continue with the ongoing development of my court room skills.

As an estate planner, I see myself as an advocate for my client's family interests, rather than the interests of an outside party. My focus is on the family, and what their loved one's experiences will be. In a business development role, my role is to help foster and maintain relationships with organizations. Selected to participate in an incubator program designed to prepare young attorney's to manage their own solo practice. The program focus is on modest means clients: people that fall in the cracks between legal aid associations and more costly private firms. Participants develop both technical legal skills, marketing skills, and office management skills, with a strong focus on operating in an autonomous environment. My practice focus was (and is) on estate planning, guardianship, and probate.In terms of self-autonomous this was very extensive, and I had the privilege to work with some top level marketing companies in the city: really refining and developing my understanding of networking, different marketing techniques, and the sales cycle. FLAP is a pro bono organization focused on bringing employment law claims on behalf of low income landscapers or migrant workers for federal wage/hour abuses. Claims are either worked out cooperatively via out-of-court settlement or with assistance of co-counsel via court room litigation.I functioned in a litigation support role, preparing depositions, interrogatories and other aspects of discovery. Judge Zambrano's docket, at least at the time, was primarily criminal in nature, though the court house was fairly small and I was exposed to a wide variety of civil dockets in addition to his criminal cases. The FCSL Immigrant Rights Clinic selects students for a clinical rotation where they manage an evolving case load of clients in immigration court or USCIS based interactions.My case load was primarily focused on Appellate work, involving me writing an appellate brief after a client's i-601 waiver application was denied. In addition I also handled a t-visa case, as well as a host of more mundane (and in one case fairly complicated) naturalization cases.

Jacksonville Area Legal Aid (JALA) focuses on low-income clients. My worked in JALA's predatory lending division. Like many such programs, the focus was on bringing claims that would either be settled out of court via settlement, or in court via litigation. My focus was on litigation support, doing a lot of the discovery grunt work, while also focusing on legal research presented to a supervising attorney in the form of a memorandum.

Stenograph is a company focusing on providing supplies, steno-machines, education, and software for the court reporting industry. I worked as an inside sales representative in the supplies department, taking inbound calls from customers wanting to purchase good or renew service contracts. This is a mid size company deeply involved in sales, marketing, and software development.
