Technical Sales Consultant
In this role I am Mason Technologys Technical Sales Consultant for General Laboratory and Life Science equipment in the Munster region.
Technical Specialist
In this position, I worked for Abbott Diagnostics Longford as a technical specialist in the operations department. This was a highly challenging fast-paced position where my duties included the technical transfer, development and validation of diagnostic products for the global market. This was a highly challenging position where I was responsible for the planning, execution, documentation and reporting of experiments. All of the above is conducted while adhering to strict cGMP and cGLP guidelines. This position has also helped to build on my knowledge of Design Planning, Risk Management, LIMS, Lean Six Sigma, 6S, Shingo and Kaizen principles. Further to this, I have gained valuable experience working in a class 5 cGMP laboratory.
Laboratory Scientist
In this position I worked in an ISO accredited diagnostics laboratory in the virology department of the Irish Equine Centre. Here my duties included sample receipt and logging of samples into a LIMS system. Samples were then analysed by ELISA, cell culture techniques or by classical virology techniques. Results were then promptly issued to customers.Further to this I was involved in the maintenance and calibration of equipment to a high level to ensure precision and accuracy. I was also responsible for stock control and ordering of laboratory consumables, chemicals and reagents.
Research Assistant
This position entailed the development of products that are fortified with phytochemical compounds that were extracted from broccoli seeds. These products were then routinely tested for antioxidant activity, colour and pH. Further to this, sensory analysis was conducted on my products by a panel of testers.
Assistant Lecturer (Part-Time) At Dublin Institute Of Technology
In this position my duties included preparing and delivering lectures on the biochemistry of metabolism. I also taught laboratory practical sessions in biochemistry and chemistry techniques. I was also involved in designing and delivering a Spring Board course on Biopharmacuticles, this included a series of lectures and laboratory practical sessions designed to develop core laboratory skills commonly used in a biopharmaceutical industrial environment.
Phd Student
This PhD entailed the detailed study of two vasoactive proteins, Neutral Endopeptidase (NEP) and Thimet Oligopeptidase (TOP), in both Human and Bovine Aortic Endothelial Cells (HAEC and BAEC) cell lines, under laminar and non-laminar flow conditions. The cell signalling pathway of both NEP and TOP were studied under both physiological and patho-physiological conditions, to determine their role in the vasculature. Techniques involved included: • Mammalian cell culture • RNA extraction and purification• Protein extraction and purification• PCR, rtPCR, QRT-PCR• SDS-PAGE • Western blotting • Transfection of plasmids and siRNAs• Mycoplasma detection • Immunocytochemistry • ELISA• Flow cytometry • Bioinformatics • Cloning During this time I was solely responsible for the collecting, analysis and interpretation of my results. These were then presented at regular group meetings or at national and international conferences in oral or poster formats.
Summer Research Student
As a summer student I worked in Dr. Carsten Schultz’s laboratory, whose multidisciplinary group develops tools for imaging and for manipulating cellular enzyme activities, with a particular emphasis on lipid signalling and cystic fibrosis. During my project I designed systematic site-directed mutations of a protein kinase C reporter (KCP-1). All clones were expressed in HeLa cells and the performance of the probes in living cells was investigated by time-lapse fluorescent microscopy. I quickly got familiar with the Visitron microscopy system in the Advanced Light Microscopy Facility at EMBL as well as with the software to analyse the data. I recorded and interpreted the results which were then presented at regular group meetings.
