As a defensive coordinator, I have the entire responsibility for the defense with the OK from the head coach. I'm never far from my defensive playbook, which is an evolving list of drills and plays my defense will use during practices and games. Our coaches will break down opponents game film as well as our game film to prepare my defense in advance of games, making sure that I organize my plays to take advantage of any weakness I see in the opposing team. I also need to develop contingency plans, such as if a player gets hurt during a game and needs to be replaced, or if the opposing team suddenly changes its strategy.I’m a coach and a mentor to my players. I try to instill values, work ethic, motivation and those kinds of things to my high school athletes. I game plan and do schemes for upcoming opponents during the week. I try to put out the best product that we can on Friday nights and hopefully take the win.
