I started at the NYPD police academy 20 years ago unaware of where it would or what kind of career I would endure. My first six months after the academy I walked a foot post where I addressed community needs and responded to 911 calls within the training zone of the precinct I covered. From there I worked patrol in a sector car on the midnight shift. While doing so I assisted in a wide array of calls ranging from domestic violence to robberies and assaults. After five years assisted our training unit for a month helping officers reenact calls of duty scenarios. When I finished that I worked on a team that addressed quality of life issues like homelessness, illegal vending, and drug use. I often worked plain clothes in attempt to catch criminals committing crimes in the act. After 4 years I worked as the Assistant Field Intelligence Officer where I debriefed prisoners, singed up confidential informants and swore out search warrants. I did that for 4 years before entering the detective bureau where I investigated, and made arrests for robbery, burglary and assaults. Most recently I’ve worked in the NYPD Crime Stoppers Office which assists detective squads with their cases. The office has a variety of tasks but most importantly we take tips on cases that we post on the NYPD Crime Stoppers social media pages.
