Managing, upgrading, and securing several J2EE applications for FedEx scheduling services.

Developed iOS replicas of existing Android phone and tablet applications that facilitated friendly forces tracking for the US Army SMDC. Worked pulling together XML, GIS, GPS, and satellite communication technologies into an existing REST backend.

Being a founding member of this small company we developed ideas and business strategies to put us on the leading edge of scientific computing in the mobile device market. As a principal investigator I have pursed research funds from the National Science Foundation to develop a system to promote and facilitate safety and regularity for managing prescription medications via computer vision. I have also worked with a local partner to develop strategic business innovation software for the iOS and Mac platforms as well as developing our own web software that facilitates small business owners social marketing.

I jumped into this role of keeping the operations of lab equipment and services in good working order with no administration background. The resolutions to unique problems that I had to create to keep the users amiable were a mixture of following traditional management and some very creative workarounds. In this position I honed my communications skills between several different types of people: engineers, business administrators, and research scientists. Along the way, I also learned practical linux administration techniques including medium scale backup recovery, network connectivity, service separation and duplication, server and service security, and many others.

Working in the Vision and Security Technology Lab I have contributed to numerous projects in computer vision including work with other universities and local research startups. Many of the ideas and techniques that I have learned here I am applying to real world problems that I believe can be solved quickly and effectively with the problem solving skills that I have garnered from my experience here. Many of the projects that I worked on were for the Department of the Navy is facial recognition and tracking in less than ideal conditions. Others include adapting various detection and recognition techniques to atypical inputs, engineering test equipment and pipelines for data collection and processing, and designing inexpensive systems to wrap around developing algorithms.
