I have been the Program Leader for Religious studies at Waterhead academy for over 13 years, within that time I have built and maintained a successful department. I currently line manage subject specialist who I have supported and developed from Classroom teacher in to positions of responsibilities, along side supporting a number of nonspecialists to teach out side their curriculum area. Within this role I have successfully coached and developed a number of staff and supported them in developing their careers with the right training and support. I have also been a training department linked with Manchester Metropolitan University's teacher training program in which I have supported, trained and developed student teachers giving them the information and practical skills they will need to develop in to successful teachers. I have developed the curriculum offering for the Religious Studies department to ensure that it is an engaging curriculum that allows student to develop their own personal knowledge and understanding of their community and beyond whilst ensuring they make the academic progress they are capable of. This includes working along side colleges from SEND departments and English as an additional language departments to ensure all students needs are met weather that be dyslexia, autism, social or language, as well as ensuring that they make the progress they are capable of. I have worked with other Curriculum leads to develop their curriculum offering and support cross curricula links to maximise the engagement of learners and the progress they make. I am confident with the use of data analysis using this regularly to assess learning and progress, this can also support identifying gaps in learning and allow for the adaptation of material to address gaps and support progress. I work successful with the senior leadership for the academy and the wider trust to implement new teaching pedagogy or policies and supporting the training of staff with this. I communicate well with students, staff, parents and out side agencies to keeping people informed of progress and developments.
