Profile bio

About Anthony Ruby

I am currently seeking opportunities to support schools and school leaders in roles that focus on developing clear and equitable systems, improved instructional practices, inclusionary and trauma-informed teaching, and a focus on instructional leadership and leadership development.. As a Director of Schools for Seattle Public Schools, I directly supported as many as 26 schools a year in developing strong instructional systems that focus on increasing equitable opportunities and outcomes for all students as a principal supervisor. Prior to joining the team in Seattle, I was a Network Superintendent and Director of Curriculum for St. Louis Public Schools, and principal at Holabird Academy - a PK-8th grade school serving 500 students in Baltimore City Public Schools. During my tenure as principal, I saw a sharp increase in literacy scores, the full rollout of common core state standards for all grade levels, an increase in student enrollment by over 100% and oversaw the process of Holabird Academy becoming a community school in partnership with the Family League of Baltimore. My success as a building and central office leader has been a direct result of improved instructional practices, and intentionally building a strong school culture by centering student ability, need and identity. I have nearly 20 years of experience in educational leadership, curriculum, professional development and classroom teaching. I am an alumni of Teach for America (Baltimore '05), New Leaders for New Schools Cohort 10, and the National Institute for School Leadership in 2014. I have also served as a classroom teacher for grades 6-12 in both public and charter settings within Baltimore City Schools. I hold an Masters of Arts in Teaching from the Johns Hopkins School of Education and am currently writing a dissertation to complete an Ed.D from the Carey S. Fishler College of Education at NOVA Southestern University in Davie, Florida. I am an advocate for children, families and communities served by public education in America - regardless of zip code or circumstance
