About Anthony Saxon
For as long as I can remember, I have been passionate about problem solving and building things. As a kid I could spend hours in my grandfather's workshop building useless things from whatever scrap material was lying around, as well as taking things apart to see how they worked. Sometimes I was even able to put them back together in a working condition. This interest has only evolved as my knowledge and experience has grown to match the wide variety of topics that have sparked my interest, from electronics and computers to watch making and guitar building.These interests have led me to various positions throughout my career that have allowed me to leverage my curiosity and analytical skills to quickly learn and understand unfamiliar systems and applications. This has allowed me to help troubleshoot complex issues, find performance improvement opportunities, improve monitoring of system and application functions, and design and develop automatomation to reduce manual work.I also am a huge proponent of continuous learning and my various roles have allowed me to do just that with exposure to a vast array of technologies and tools:- I have worked on applications written in C, Ruby, Java, and Python, among others.- I have used automation tools such as Puppet and Ansible as well as even writing some of my own in simple Bash or Python.- I have helped migrate applications from standalone server deployment into a container based methodology that enabled the use of Kubernetes stacks for continuous deployment.- I have experience reverse engineering the architecture of a public cloud based application that leveraged several AWS services including RDS, Elasticache, and Elastic Beanstalk, among others.Outside of my technology work, I spread my time between my wife and 3 children, doing a little bit of competitive shooting with IDPA, noodling around on the guitar, and tinkering with whatever has recently wormed its way into my ever-growing hobby collection.
