This project has enabled me to become proficient with procedures in the… Show more As a PhD researcher, my main responsibility is to conduct novel research on machine learning methods for improving the accuracy and reducing the computational cost of turbulent flow simulations. The research direction led me to build supervised deterministic and probabilistic machine learning models for predicting turbulence, as well as unsupervised clustering algorithms to assess the input-output relation of these models. This project has enabled me to become proficient with procedures in the data science process, including data preprocessing, developing machine learning models, evaluating model performance, results analysis, and data visualisation. To train these models and perform computational fluid simulations, I gained experience in high performance computing, including Linux shell scripting and writing scripts with SLURM and SGE to run HPC jobs.I was also responsible for supervising three undergraduate and master's students in the research group on the technical aspects of their dissertation projects. The supervision involved mentoring them on challenging machine learning concepts, reviewing their machine learning code, and helping them manage their progress. These commitments and their enthusiasm led to them achieving marks of 75+, and one master's student achieving the best dissertation mark in their course. Show less
