During these sessions, I've shared my personal journey into the industry, illustrating how my own experiences and choices led me to a fulfilling career in sustainability.Our primary goal in these visits is to inspire the future workforce to consider careers within sustainability by emphasising the relevance of school education in leading to a green career. I highlight various subjects that are directly connected to green careers, such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and even subjects like geography and history, which play a crucial role in understanding the broader impacts of climate change and sustainable business practices.We help students see the wide range of green careers available, from roles in renewable energy production to positions in environmental policy and sustainable urban planning. I explain the personal, environmental, social, and economic benefits of pursuing a green career, demonstrating how these jobs contribute not just to individual fulfillment and financial stability, but also to the health and well-being of our planet and communities.We explore various pathways into green careers, showcasing the different entry points such as university degrees, vocational training, and particularly apprenticeship pathways, which offer hands-on experience and learning. By doing so, I hope to make the idea of a green career more accessible and achievable for all students, regardless of their academic preferences or backgrounds.Overall, my time volunteering with Net Zero Heroes has been both rewarding and eye-opening.
