I am an intern at Starr Vista in Detroit, which is a case management organization working with youth in the juvenile justice system. In my role, I meet weekly with all youth who are currently being detained pending the completion of different types of court involvement.

Developed a role to support families with youth experience extreme crisis. Provide 1:1 support to youth in crisis and their families while waiting for evaluation or treatment as well as provided education to caregivers on supporting youth in crisis. Developed a network of resources and referrals in the area to help support families who were struggling and give them access to more care.

Oxford, Michigan

At Crossroads, I was responsible for supervising and caring for children who had been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. On a daily basis I would monitor the youth, make sure they were following program, going to school, being properly fed, and interacting appropriately with each other. In addition, I worked with the unit therapist to develop and implement each youths treatment plan.

As the Business Development Coordinator, my main functions were client satisfaction. Above all else, I was there to ensure that all of our clients had the best experience possible at our dealerships. In addition to this, I frequently was asked to review current procedures relating to how we interact with our clients and determine how they could be improved. Lastly, I was also responsible for maintaining corporate contacts and assisting them with their needs.

I worked as a refinance banker for Quicken Loans. As a refinance banker, I worked with my clients to find the best way to get their mortgage to work for them. This included everything from dropping payments to debt consolidation. During my time at Quicken I took pride in not just seeing my clients as a number, but in taking the time to truly understand their struggles so I could find the best way to help them. Sometimes this meant telling people that they were in the best spot and I couldn't do anything to improve their situation. The most rewarding times were when my position allowed me to help people stay in their homes or do something meaningful like help send their kids to college. The experience I gained at Quicken will be something I continue to lean on as I move forward in life.

During my time at Ozone house, I was the crisis line intern. As a crisis line intern, I maned the phone just like all the other volunteers. On these days my main goal was to assist callers in whatever way possible. Whether it was a youth seeking counseling services, a mother looking for shelter for her and her children, or a young person in crisis, I was there to provide support in whatever way could be mustered. Unfortunately, sometimes that meant the only thing I could do was provide emotional support. The most profound moments were when I was able to help someone who was in crisis. Knowing that I helped someone who thought they were at the end of the road and out of options is an indescribable experience. Outside of taking calls on the crisis time, I spent half of my time developing in county resources. This meant working with other organizations to provide as much support as possible to our clientele. Sometimes it was as little as updating phone numbers in our contact logs; other times it was organizing events to bring awareness or raise funds. My time at Ozone while sometimes difficult is something I will treasure for a lifetime.

In my 4+ years at Batteries+Bulbs I performed a variety of services. My main function was sales and customer satisfaction. At the multiple locations I worked at, I was counted on to provide excellent customer service as well as maintain high levels of professionalism. In addition to this, I was also responsible for analyzing sales data and trends in order to effectively manage inventory. Furthermore, I was also responsible for assisting commercial customers in several capacities, including managing their accounts receivable records. Finally, I performed multiple housekeeping tasks to maintain a professional atmosphere in the store.
