Ams Graphitization Laboratory Technician I
CurrentWorks with a team of other lab techs to perform the scientific/experimental procedures required to complete the graphitization process required for C14 sample analysis via AMS. Duties and tasks included procedures such as: Sealing of quartz and borosilicate test-tubes under vacuum with the use of a high temperature propane-oxygen torch; use of a digital analytical balance to weigh chemical powders; distribution of pre-weighed chemical powders into inserts and tubes in preparation for the graphitization process; feces sample homogenization; observance of good laboratory practices and good documentation practices in accordance to FDA regulations; pressing graphite into cathodes for AMS analysis; loading graphite loaded cathodes into sample wheels, and then loading those sample wheels into the AMS source for analysis; proper use of speedvacs and carbolite furnaces in the graphitization process; working on new processes, and revisions to current process, for improved organization and/or efficiency.
