Works with a team of other lab techs to perform the scientific/experimental procedures required to complete the graphitization process required for C14 sample analysis via AMS. Duties and tasks included procedures such as: Sealing of quartz and borosilicate test-tubes under vacuum with the use of a high temperature propane-oxygen torch; use of a digital analytical balance to weigh chemical powders; distribution of pre-weighed chemical powders into inserts and tubes in preparation for the graphitization process; feces sample homogenization; observance of good laboratory practices and good documentation practices in accordance to FDA regulations; pressing graphite into cathodes for AMS analysis; loading graphite loaded cathodes into sample wheels, and then loading those sample wheels into the AMS source for analysis; proper use of speedvacs and carbolite furnaces in the graphitization process; working on new processes, and revisions to current process, for improved organization and/or efficiency.

My primary duty was teaching various classes to attending groups of kids, mostly from schools, just like when I was employed here previously. Classes included: Herpetology, Ornithology, Challenge Course/Team Building, Lake Ecology, Watershed, Fish Dissection, canoeing, and others.When not teaching, I was assigned to work in the Museum lab the first season, where I was primarily responsible for tending to the small collection of reptile, amphibian, and arthropod animal ambassadors there; performing tasks including but not limited to: tank and enclosure cleaning, feeding, handling, enrichment, and general care. As well as keeping detailed records of animal care.This season, I am assigned to the Wildlife lab, where I perform largely the same animal care tasks as I did in the museum, but with a larger collection of animal ambassadors.Since March 23rd, though, I have been working remotely due to the COVID-19 lock-down. During this time my tasks have been: writing curriculum for a new class; drawing snake illustrations for a coloring activity; researching, designing, and developing animal enrichment procedures and structures; helping update/improve general animal care procedures.
