I never thought of my self as a Math-Wiz, but back in 2012 i proved my self wrong. it was in my Finite Math class at my university, where a simple question of how can i earn some extra credit turned into a year long research project. My professor and i shared a common interest, college hockey. along with what we were learning in the class about statistics and linear programming we developed an algorithm to best group college hockey teams. This research was relevant at the time because it was right before the Big Ten entered the college hockey stage. it all started with a conversation on who we thought should go to which conference and why. We looked at how minimizing distance traveled and maximizing the attendance scores would effect the proposed conference realignment versus the model we came up with. this opportunity gave me the chance to speak at a national conference and get my paper publish through the universities Journal Of Research. This has taught me that you always have to keep an open mind, i went into the class not knowing anything about statistics or linear programming and i ended up learning more than i ever thought. I feel that this experience has helped me as a student and Business Major, because it has helped me discover different aspects of my self and to never turn down the smallest opportunity.
