• Provide various financial reports and analyses on a monthly basis for senior management• Provide training to other accountants in the use of Excel and Oracle software• Prepared the annual budget for the Council. This involves calculations for inflation, FRS17 and corporate growth, pressures and savings• Produce and submit statutory VAT returns for the Council on a monthly basis. • Control, advise and provide support for other staff with various VAT issues or queries. Ensuring that billing officers use the correct VAT rate• Engage and advise senior officers within the Council with regards to the budget and VAT. • Liaise with the Council’s relationship officer from HMRC to ensure VAT processes meet standard and stringent controls• Investing the Council’s surplus cash in the money market. This involves negotiating a better rate of return in order to achieve an optimum investment.

• Monitoring and maintenance of the membership data base system for customers using the Council’s leisure facilities• Co-ordinate business activities with other departments in the Council• Lead and work with the Council’s partner in establishing a new financial system. Processes include co-piloting of the system, vigorous testing, reconciliation and training other staff on the workings of the new system. The system has been successfully installed and the Council is able to collect the required fees more timely, efficiently and with less work involved.
