Created Population Descent from scratch, a global optimizer used to more effectively train Neural Network models in situations where industry-standard algorithms fail (like when training on non-convex loss functions). I used Python libraries NumPy, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Keras. I implemented loss function smoothing and genetic selection using mutations from a Gaussian Distribution to tune hyperparameters to reduce overfitting. Overall, I achieved 7% lower test loss.I am continuing to work with the lab to finish testing my work, and to draft/publish a research paper.
