As the Deputy Chief of Communications at Arkansas State Parks, I bring over two decades of experience in public relations and media management. My journey began with the Jacksonville Police Department, where I served as the Public Information Officer and Media Public Relations Manager for 24 years. In this role, I managed all media relations, developed comprehensive communication strategies, coordinated public relations activities, and served as the primary spokesperson, handling high-profile incidents and crises.Currently, I support all divisions and programs within the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism (ADPHT). I report directly to the Chief of Communications and supervise a multi-person communications team. My responsibilities include developing and executing marketing and communications plans, coordinating press conferences and media briefings, and developing media relations strategies to secure high-level placements in print, broadcast, and online media.I lead the social media team to engage audiences across traditional and new media platforms and leverage existing media relationships while cultivating new contacts within business and industry media. My role involves managing media inquiries, creating content for press releases, byline articles, and keynote presentations, and monitoring PR results on a quarterly basis.I am passionate about building relationships with thought leaders to grow industry awareness and maintaining a keen understanding of industry trends to make appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategies.
