Working with Professor Glenn Starkman, I use Python and OpenCV to construct simulation images for our project to discover "macro" dark matter particles in granite counter-tops. Dark matter particles theoretically create black ellipses in the granite. Since one has yet to be detected, I am programming simulation ellipses onto the images we already have. Working with Professor Corbin Covault, I use System Verilog and C++ to interface between multi-channel photodetection systems and a GPS timing system for the experimental detection of “macro” dark matter particles. Based on the luminosity of macro particles passing through the atmosphere, we use multiple photodetectors to observe and investigate the origins and properties of particulate dark matter.

I worked with Richard Graham and Edwin Park at Delta Sound Labs to create a Unity project that would provide users of the Stream software to test the audio plugin parameters. Using C#, I mapped audio parameters to change the visual effects of an object. By mapping the size, color, and emission intensity of an object to key bindings, I scaled those values and input them as audio plugin parameters. I also programmed a terrain that's height is controlled by the audio output to create an engaging landscape while manipulating the object. The landscape shows the waveform so the user can see volume, frequency, etc. change directly. This will be used as a tutorial for new users to understand how each parameter manipulates the audio source. Through this internship I have learned software distortion synthesis emulation, various audio effects, and improved on my programming skills.
