The agenda to realize the SDGs in 2030 is ambitious and the business case is there. However, it necessary to work together in partnerships, to integrate the SDGs in the strategy of companies, to create breakthrough innovations, and to promote young leadership. The young people are the leaders of tomorrow. To stimulate them in their roles, Global Compact Network Netherlands started the Young Professional Program in 2016.The Young Professional (YP) Program (YPP) empowers young entrepreneurs to become agents of change within and outside their UN Global Compact local networks. YP’s work to ensure that their peers gain the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to increase awareness of the SDG’s and have them supported by the economy of the future.To accomplish this, YPs advocate for lasting corporate change and create opportunities for companies to engage with innovation and entrepreneurship within the boundaries of the SDGs.The YPP is initiated by the Global Compact Network Netherlands."We Young Professionals are on the mission of empowering young entrepreneurs to become agents of change within and outside our UN Global Compact local networks by increasing awareness of the SDGs and activating influentials to strive towards reaching them."

The program is run by Stanford University’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (d.school).The University Innovation Fellows program empowers students to become agents of change at their schools. Together with Novel-T and the municipality, the University Innovation Fellows have been working on “Keeping Talent in Twente” (UIF project): A survey to find out what the attractors and threats of Twente are. The research results of 454 student participants can be found attached. These have been presented to the Twente Top July 14, 2018, and is continued with further collaboration with the Twente Top.

The DesignLab is a platform for multidisciplinary cooperation, innovation, and creativity, on which ‘design research’ is taught, researched and performed from a clear, own mindset: Science2Design4Society. ‘Design’ is the realization of creative and multidisciplinary connections between science and society. Students and researchers from all disciplines at the UT work together with external partners to implement and further develop scientific and technological insights that can be used in finding and shaping creative, innovative and meaningful solutions for complex societal challenges. In translating scientific knowledge to a useable product, the impact on society is key: the goal is impactful innovation. The DesignLab shapes its role as a platform for multidisciplinary cooperation, innovation, and creativity by providing an optimal infrastructure for research and education centred on multidisciplinary research and design. The DesignLab allows researchers to work on multidisciplinary projects that translate science to society, as well as allow them to use the facilities for ideation, interaction, prototyping and testing. Study programmes can use to the DesignLab for education in which science and technology are explicitly connected to societal challenges and implications through design. As a platform for ‘Design for Society’, the DesignLab aims to facilitate the cooperation with companies and social organisations. As a broker between questions from society and the expertise of students and faculty staff within the university. As a centre of expertise that can assist companies and social organisations with the help of an own method to translate science through design to societal challenges and implications. And as a party in public-private cooperative agreements, in which companies and social organisations are co-financing scientific research.
