Program Director & Senior Research Fellow
CurrentI develop and co-lead community based and intersectoral interventions for mental health and suicide prevention in India and low- and middle- income countries. I've been working with a range of stakeholders for implementation of the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 and the National Mental Health Policy, 2014 and have facilitated the capacity building of over 3000 formal and informal stakeholders in India's mental health system. I have developed and co-led the Keshav Desiraju India Mental Health Observatory which is a repository of data and information on mental health laws, policies & services to promote evidence-based policy making and bridge systemic gaps for advancing mental health in India. Currently, I co-lead Outlive - a four year youth suicide prevention programme which addresses urban youth suicide (18 to 24 years) in Mumbai, Pune & Delhi by engaging young people through (i) a public engagement campaign (ii) Outlive Chat - a vounteer-driven peer support programme for providing chat-based emotional support to youth experiencing distress or thoughts of suicide (iii) The Youth Advocacy for Suicide Prevention Fellowship Programme (YASP Fellowship) to train and mentor youth advocates to engage with policymakers in ensuring systemic change for youth suicide prevention. I also co-lead ENGAGE - an adolescent suicide prevention programme which aims to train school teachers through an online interactive course to identify, support and refer at-risk adolescents in four districts of Chhattisgarh, India in collaboration with the Department of Health & Family Welfare and Department of School Education, Government of Chhattisgarh.
