Profile bio

About Armand Brevig, M.Eng, Mba

I specialise in procuring Professional Services. Most of my experience is within the content/knowledge and pharmaceuticals industries. However, I have proven I can learn quickly and contribute to other sectors too – e.g. utilities, public sector and construction. My experience is a unique combination of blue-chip procurement, entrepreneurship and procurement consulting, which makes me particularly effective as a procurement leader. That unique experience has shaped my approach to stakeholder engagement. I take a data driven consultative approach, i.e. I analyse and understand stakeholders’ business challenges, engage with empathy and build trust, recommend a solution and then implement it.Because of my general business understanding and entrepreneurial experience, I find it easy to truly empathise with stakeholders. I then leverage my sales skills to effectively partner with those stakeholders.Stakeholder engagement also informs category strategies I develop. They are pragmatic, implementable, and based on research and analysis. I have trained procurement teams in applying that same approach to their own category strategy development. My approach to negotiation is data and insights driven, just like my stakeholder management approach. The process involves researching, analysing, planning, executing and evaluating. Because I have had the experience of sitting on the other side of the negotiating table, selling SaaS and consulting services, I can now better anticipate vendor needs and identify collaboration opportunities.I have negotiated with Professional Services suppliers such as EY, KPMG, PWC, and typically deliver total cost reductions of 15-30%.I’ve led complex projects in complex environments, secured sponsorship, gained buy-in to new ways of working, navigated challenging situations, mapped and navigated stakeholders. That creates project momentum, ensures successful outcomes and timely project delivery.

Listed skills include Cross Functional Team Leadership, Strategic Sourcing, Stakeholder Management, Process Engineering, and 46 others.

Informa, a FTSE 100 company, is a leading international B2B events, digital services and academic knowledge business. My contributions to the success of Informa include:• Partnering with internal stakeholders to develop procurement solutions that best contribute to addressing their unique business challenges • Developing and delivering procurement strategies• Leading improvement programmes, e.g. with respect to supplier consolidation, process efficiencies and procurement policies• Developing savings plans and delivering financial benefits• Leading supplier relationship development and management• Negotiating supplier terms and conditions to mitigate risk and optimise total costsIn the article linked below I explain my approach to buying services.

May 2023 - Present

Principal Procurement Consultant / Founder

Nottingham, Gb

Procurement Cube drove dramatically improved performance through its Business Focused Procurement approach - an approach based on sales insights combined with deep procurement expertise.Worked directly with clients and as well as via boutique consulting firms Efficio, ArcBlue/PMMS and Phetairos. Some large clients were Takeda, Ipsen and National Grid.Examples of past assignments:• Procured various materials required by factories of pan European construction industry firm, Consolis. As an embedded resource in Procurement teams in Denmark and Norway, I accelerated delivery of project portfolio which formed part of a wider pan-European procurement transformation. This included negotiating with Low Cost Country suppliers.• At the Nursing & Midwifery Council, I was engaged to revive a previously stalled attempt at category management roll-out. I did that by leading the development of an ROI focused category strategy for Professional & HR Services. Buy-in achieved by putting stakeholder agendas first, helped generate multi-million £ savings. I later trained procurement teams in two other companies on the category development methodology I used.• At global pharma company, Ipsen, I led procurement of a companywide cloud-based content access solution, which now allows the company to fully execute on its sales and R&D strategies. Due to the business criticality of the system, I engaged with stakeholders across the company and developed a compelling business case for senior management. In addition to supporting Procurement functions, I have: (1) advised Sales functions on negotiating better with Procurement; and (2) supported content marketing by authoring engaging content targeted at professional buyers. Example - “Insider’s guide to sourcing translation services” authored for global translation agency, RWS (see link below). The Procurement Cube blog contains many articles I have authored about procurement related topics. See link below.
