Joined forces with a newly established team to build the foundation for an analytics-centric data lake, addressing the growing need for consolidated, high-quality data. As a team we were tasked with building the ETL pipelines, setting up an orchestrating framework, managing requirements, and defining best practices for development.Highlights:2021 & 2022:- Actively contributed in conceptualizing and implementing the Data Lake, using technologies like Azure Databricks (ADB), Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure Data Factory (ADF), and Azure DevOps (ADO) - Constructed many of the initial data processing pipelines- Helped with pipelines for integration with Google Cloud Platform resources.- Developed a REST API for persisting ML model metrics - Implemented GDPR compliance logic for data processing.- Taught applied days and refined the Data Science Junior Academy across two more iterations.2023:- Designed and implemented reference implementation for unit tests and associated documentation in the context of data lake development.- Implemented a unified, automatically-updating, documentation system across multiple source repositories with Asciidoc, Antora, and ADO CI/CD.- Implemented standardized logging processes using Azure Log Analytics, including custom log analytics handler and developer-friendly logging support functionalities.- Developed exception handling and error logging best-practices; explored automated alert systems using Kusto Query Language (KQL).- Standardized CI/CD pipelines for data lake deployments - Led applied part of the 5th iteration of the DS Junior Academy, introduced a custom-built "LLM-based Pandas Tutor" tool to support the participants in their learning journey.I also hold the role of product owner for Python within our firm, co-authored the programming style guide, Python-specific developer guides, as well as related documentation. By now we firmly established Python as an officially acknowledged language in our company.

After completing my trainee program, I worked as a Data Scientist for half a year with my focus on:- helped with onboarding Data Scientists onto the new Azure workbench and migration of our existing machine learning codebase and surrounding processes to the cloud- continued work on automated document validation applications (OCR, NLP, ML)- helped set up initial deployment pathways to operationalize our ML models, this included - packaging up the best-performing models into suitable Docker containers and publishing those to ACR (Azure Container Registry), from where we could access and make them available in our internal docker repository for deployment to our existing on-premise Kubernetes clusters- taught the applied days during the 2nd iteration of the company internal Data Science Junior Academy and further refined the teaching materials

Over the year, I underwent rotations across three departments:Phase 1 – Strategic Information Management:- Advocated for Python as the main language for Data Science projects.- Established a collaborative on-premise Data Science Workbench environment for the company's Smart Data initiative using Jupyter Lab and integrated Gitlab for collaboration and version control.- Conducted experiments with NLP (Natural Language Processing), helped build prototypes for automatic document validation to enable efficiency gains in labor intense manual processes.- Participated in evaluating cloud-based Data Science workbench vendors.Phase 2 - IT Strategy:- I was part of a project team that, in close collaboration with MS consultants and supporting engineers, carried out the initial conceptualization and implementation for a cloud data science work environment.- Deeply engaged with Azure Machine Learning (AML), Azure Container Registry (ACR), and Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS).- Assisted in preparation of a cloud-based data lake using Azure Databricks and Azure Data Factory.- Evaluated and presented on MLFlow for ML model management.- Became proficient in Azure DevOps, emphasizing project management features.Phase 3 - Marketing:- Supported evaluations of self-service BI tools, primarily focusing on Tableau.- Demonstrated Tableau's capabilities by creating sample dashboards in collaboration with marketing.- Introduced Azure DevOps project management functionalities to the marketing team.- Co-developed and taught the applied part of the inaugural Data Science Junior Academy in 2020, promoting Python programming, data manipulation, and machine learning applications within the company.
