About Arshad Khan

Around 40 years of diversified experience working with National, Multi-national and public sector organizations holding Board level and Senior Management positions. Better financial position enabled the management to make adequate investment on its content, human resource development and other screen related activities. Also opened up the channel for balanced coverage to all parties to enhance the credibility of the channel which was appreciated at all forums

Starting from finalization of its license and brand name “Ufone”, successfully completed all tasks required to launch this new entity Nationwide including hiring core team, network topology & its roll out, establishing offices, induction of staff, devising marketing strategies, putting up retail & distribution channels, negotiating interconnect/ roaming agreements etc. Also successfully persuaded the Govt in May 2000 to implement long outstanding industry demand of Calling Party Pays (CPP)After the launch of ufone service on 29 Jan 2001, successfully ran the operations of the organizations as its Chief Executive for first three years. Ufone soon became a highly popular brand that changed the perception of mobile phone in the country by making it accessible to a common man. The success of Ufone was evident from the fact that it acquired 27% market share in a short span and offered many innovative services for the first time in the country including WAP, GPRS (2.5G) & MMS. These technologies laid the foundation for mobile internet/data services and prompted the potential for future wireless broadband technologies like wimax,3G/4G/LTE in the country. Ufone also achieved unprecedented financial results by coming into net profits in only 18 months of starting operations and announcing dividend for the share holders in less than two and half years.Ufone also played a role of a catalyst in jump starting the stagnant cellular industry. The unprecedented growth triggered through launch of Ufone generated lot of interest among the International investors which resulted in attracting huge foreign investment to the Country when Govt auctioned two more cellular licenses.
