About Arslan Khan

Please see arslan8.github.io for latest updates. I am an Assistant Professor at PennState university in EECS department. Before this, I was a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Computer Science at Purdue University. I worked in FRIENDS and PurSec labs under the guidance of Prof. Dongyan Xu and Prof. Dave (Jing) Tian. Other than that I also worked closely with Prof. Antonio Bianchi. My research interest lies in the area of systems and security. In particular, I am interested in identifying novel architectures and security issues in confidential computing and operating systems. My research was at the intersection of operating systems, program analysis, and compilers. On the defensive side, I worked on protecting applications in the presence of vulnerabilities, focusing on memory corruption and type violations, using techniques such as software compartmentalization. On the offensive side, I worked on program analysis to find vulnerabilities in programs, using techniques such as white-box fuzzing and symbolic execution.

At RF Lab, KICS under supervision of Dr. Naseer -ud-Din Najafi experimented with renewable energy systems and high frequency design of PCB, prepared POC for various systems mostly inclined to concentrated solar energy such as heliostats, parabolic troughs and fresnels. This included platform development from scratch. Developed software for these platform, based on SPA (Julian time). Assembled, tested and debugged Motor driver card and Motherboards for Heliostats installed at CERAD. Worked with up 2 to 4 layer PCB design and assembling with industrial tools such as Altium. Other than that some side projects indcluded Testing and Debugging of Molten Salt (Mg-Sb) battery with Dr. Amjad Chaudhary, Design and installation of an electric furnace at Automotive Center, UET, Lahore, was the key person in TOT.

Built Linux from source for Raspberry Pi and deployed on it. Command line programming of UNIX (used Raspbian), used interfaces such as procfs and sysfs to alter hardware configuration initially, however for programmatic low-level peripheral access used an open source library 'wiringPi', made a demo application for education purposes.
