A Strategic Credit Specialist (SCS) is responsible for the facilitation of BP's North American Gas & Power (NAGP’s) commercial activities and longer term strategies through proactive identification of material credit risks, as well as the creation of innovative mitigation structures. The role also monitors several assigned industry portfolios to ensure credit risk remains within BP's International Supply and Trading's (IST’s) risk appetite. Commodities and products covered by the role include natural gas, power, oil and energy derivatives. Key accountabilities– Facilitate day-to-day transaction requests from the Front Office and support the structuring of large and/or long term complex transactions;– Establish credit limits and trading tenor limits for counterparties that fall within formally delegated authority. Effectively escalate requests for approval above delegated authority;– Work directly with the Global Credit Research (GCR) team to understand the creditworthiness of counterparties and understand the rationale for assigned credit ratings;– Negotiate credit terms and consult with NAGP Contracts and Legal to develop any non-standard credit-related clauses within master contracts;– Assist in the negotiation and collection of specific security required to secure trading exposure with certain counterparties, and;– Report portfolio metrics, exposures, activity and trends on a periodic basis as requested

• Counterparty credit analysis: obtain financial information from counterparts, compile a thorough analysis of financial and business risks, and recommend credit limits• Credit exposure monitoring: analyze credit exposures to ensure compliance with credit limits and policies within the context of changing energy marketing environment• Focused operational interaction including daily credit support on the trading desk and collateral management (Letters of Credit, Guarantees, Prepayments)• Effective communication with oil and gas traders, legal counsel, and external counterparties on credit issues• Support credit risk systems development, including specific project based initiatives, as well as ongoing development of existing systems

• Conduct annual counterparty credit reviews on over 220+ Oil and Gas companies to ensure all customers were in compliance with corporate policies and procedures• Mitigate counterparty trading risks through the management of $3 billion in cash and Letters of Credit to protect the Exchange from counterparty defaults • Manage financial risks for NGX by monitoring clients' liquidity and ensuring collateral requirements are met on an ongoing basis• Support Operations and Marketing groups by providing margin/risk/credit expertise to address any internal or external queries• Provide customer support services on Exchange traded products, initial margin pricing and mark-to-market valuations to ensure smooth business practices were conducted at all times• Support a growing business with new customer sign ups in Canada and the US, starting with initial customer contact to finalizing the process by opening new customers for clearing
