I am now retired after 46 years in electronic product design, software development and project management. In 1990, I co-founded Invision Microsystems as an electronics design consultancy. Invision pioneered the design and development of full-colour LED video displays, with early installations at Aston Villa (1997), Leeds Utd. (1998) and the Trafford Centre (1998), as well as a number of mobile hydraulically-deployable rental displays. Following an investment in Invision by 3i and the subsequent restructuring of the company, I spun off Technographic Displays in 1998. For 12 years, Technographic concentrated on the development of LED screen control systems and the design of custom LED displays such as the iconic Energy Ring at London’s Science Museum. I was involved with numerous high-profile video screen installations and events. Live events included Live 8 in 2005 and international athletics events from 2003 to 2008.From 2010 to 2022 I operated SysDev Ltd. which offered electronic product development services and consultancy on LED screen installations and control systems. SysDev's products included TechScore, a cricket scoring application and TechEvent, a live-event event presentation application. Both these products form the basis of the big screen control systems in use at Trent Bridge, Emerald Headingley and Kia Oval cricket grounds.In 2012, Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club appointed me as a consultant on their second screen project, resulting in the installation of the largest permanently-installed stadium screen in Europe. I was subsequently engaged as screens consultant on the Compton and Edrich redevelopment project at Lord's Ground and for Yorkshire CCC at Headingley Stadium.From 2021 to 2022, I supplied TechEvent presentation systems at Northamptonshire CCC, Glamorgan CCC, Derbyshire CCC, Leicestershire CCC and Leeds Rhinos. TechEvent has also been used to play out bespoke scoreboard graphics at all UK venues hosting The Hundred since its inception in 2021.In August 2022, SysDev Ltd. was purchased by Digital Media Technologies Ltd., where I was employed as Senior Sports Consultant until my retirement in 2024.
