My PhD project was in between two fields, namely the polymerization and the formation of Pickering emulsions using cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs). To make it clear, we tried to stabilize emulsions through various kind of polymerization, of various kind of monomers stabilized with a natural Pickering nanoparticles : the CNC.How I explain it when people asks what I do : I'm trying to replace toxic surfactant by natural particles extracts from wood, which at the same time make the emulsion tougher, to produce emulsion or their solid equivalents : latex.After three years working with this nanoparticle, I believe there is a giant potential for it.
