I am presently a Chief Scientist and Professor (AcSIR) of Organic Chemistry andNatural Products Chemistry at Medicinal and Process Chemistry (MPC) Division of C.S.I.R.-Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), Lucknow (UP). I received my early education fromB.H.U., Varanasi (UP) and my PhD from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi in 1990.I have wide experience of working with industry and towards the development of new chemical processes or improving existing synthetic routes and pilot plant procedure for manufacturing products for agriculture and pharmaceutical industries (1991-93). I received my postdoctoral training at Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago and at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, USA (1994-97). In 1997, I returned to India and started independent research at Natural Product Chemistry and Process Development division of CSIR-I.H.B.T., Palampur (HP) & extensively worked and participated in the sustainable use of medicinal plants and cash crops of commercial importance for their application in herbal products, natural color & dyes and nutraceutical products. During 2007-08, I was a visiting scientist at Umea University, Sweden wherein my research focused on the synthesis of 2-pyridone scaffolds as a novel class of pilicidal agents that attenuate virulence in gram-negative bacteria. My work has led to the introduction of natural-product inspired synthesis of hybrid molecules as a new class of antimalarial and anti-cancer scaffolds. I have expertise in the field of organic synthesis, green chemistry, natural products, biotransformation, analytical chemistry and drug discovery. My long-term goals are to contribute broad expertise in chemistry and biology to evaluate novel and safer environmental/sustainable protocols/products and its impact on human health and environmental sciences utilizing the tools of green chemistry.
