LPG-VLGCAs Chief Engineer on LPG carriers of all types (mostly VLGC), my core skill sets revolve around the following:1) Planning and ensuring implementation of the planned maintenance system to minimize breakdown maintenance.2) Personally directing all maintenance of cargo handling / refrigeration machinery, mooring and anchor handling machinery, fixed fire fighting systems and pollution prevention equipment.3) Planning and executing statutory surveys of all machinery as per the CMS schedule or carrying out surveys as per the MPMS program where approved. 4) Ensuring the ship remains commercially viable at all times by satisfying all OCIMF/ SIGTTO / CDI requirements & recommendations, especially for newly constructed / acquired ships. 5) Maintaining a comprehensive ongoing defect list for onboard rectification or the next dry-docking / refit.6) Reviewing the the spares / stores inventory and ensuring sufficient stock by requisitioning for these at the correct time and intervals.7) Ensuring the sea-worthiness of the ship in terms of fitness of propulsion and auxiliary machinery and sufficient stock of fuel, lubes and boiler feed water for a safe voyage ahead; factoring in the logistics involved and a reasonable safety margin.8) Ensuring the ship's machinery and other aspects of day-to day running is in compliance with the ISM code as stipulated by the company's Quality, Health, Safety & Environment Protection policies.9)Attending the sea-trials and machinery trials of a yard delivered ship and ensuring it meets the ordered specifications, as well as IMO,OCIMF,SIGTTO and CDI requirements.10) Liaising with the ship's technical superintendent to ensure all logistical support for the above is arranged on time, as well as reporting any anomaly to the company for subsequent action by higher authorities.11) Assisting the master of the ship in all matters of general administration and safe operation with zero tolerance for envrironment pollution.

LPG-VLGC1) Implementing the planned / breakdown maintanance of propulsion & key auxiliary machinery on board merchant ships, principally fully refrigerated LPG carriers.2) Maintaining the inventory of spare parts and ensuring stock of all requisite spares for the planned maintenance schedule.3) Planning and deployment of manpower for various maintenance jobs on board.4) Training junior engineers and engine ratings on board for proficiency in their jobs as well as preparing them for the next rank where applicable.5) Assisting the Chief Engineer in his paperwork and coordinating his efforts to run the ship's machinery in an efficient, economic and environment-friendly way. 6) Substituting the Chief Engineer whenever he is unavailable or incapacitated, including emergencies involving machinery or environment pollution.
