As the tech lead of the LunaDb Infrastructure team I lead a team of six engineers (including me) working on scaling the infra for our real-time data loading framework (like GraphQL) that serves the majority of read traffic for the site. Over my time on the team I’ve- helped redesign large parts of our data loading and pubsub systems eg. => leading work to break apart monolith data loading server and pubsub components => rewrote pubsub routing saving ~$2M/year in costs => helped build out a distributed caching layer above the db- helped tune grpc/envoy/istio for latency and even load- led team through migration from old in-house k8s framework to a more granular + modernized system- helped technically mentor other engineers both on/off the team (+ created/ran long-running knowledge sharing meetings)- championed service mesh/networking standardization, adoption of Go, etcCurrently working towards making LunaDb operate like a platform, rather than a service- re-working parts of data loading service for better load isolation, attribution and scoped alerting- ensuring JS/TS code run in polyglot VM remains performant- investing in automated and configurable dark traffic testing
