As an MCAT Content Creator, I wrote hundreds of high-level practice questions for MedSchoolCoach clients to practice with in preparation for the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). I also constructed several passages using scientific journal articles and accompanying passaged-based questions. As I honed my content writing skills, I transitioned to editing and approving content developed by fellow Content Creators. The content I initially developed is now being used to tutor clients and train incoming Content Creators.

As a business analyst intern, I was responsible for testing and reporting bugs related to business foreclosure and bankruptcy review applications. My work focused on validation of job flows and database records while adhering to business requirements which I helped develop and update via discussion with Subject Matter Experts.

I served as the sole scribe for four neurosurgeons at the outpatient Neurosurgery Clinic within MHealth's Clinics and Surgery Center, with each neurosurgeon having a unique set of guidelines to adhere to as I document physician notes. Additionally, I reviewed each patient's medical history and summarized salient details for the providers prior to each appointment to provide an informative and distinguishing patient overview. Neurosurgical patients’ medical and surgical histories can be complex and difficult to fully understand; I mastered the details required to concisely yet comprehensively document essential patient information.

As a medical scribe at the urgent care at St. Francis Regional Medical Center, my role was to document the physician's complete encounter with patients using their electronic health record system. Within a given six-hour shift, I saw up to 30 patients. As my scribing proficiency grew, I began training incoming scribes as well. Working as a scribe required continual vigilance and attention to detail, as I often had to juggle up to 8 patients simultaneously in a high-paced environment. The providers often communicate their thought processes behind the formation of a diagnosis which makes the experience significantly more educational.

Through my role as a biochemistry lab teaching assistant, I conducted teaching-based research to investigate if using pre-lab assessments and co-mentoring groups improves student success in a biochemistry lab course. I established specific criteria for data collection and analysis and found that pre-lab effectiveness depended on the prompt's depth and that co-mentoring boosted student outcomes. These findings were published as an abstract in the FASEB Journal (Abstract Number: 617.26) and presented at the 2019 Experimental Biology Meeting by Dr. Smith-Keiling. My research marks progress towards constructing an inclusive lab environment for students.

I was a teaching assistant for an upper division biochemistry lab course I had taken previously. This work entailed 2-10 combined hours of grading assignments and office hours per week. During office hours, I assisted students in understanding weekly assignments and properly writing the final lab report. Beyond my direct interactions with students, I assisted the lab professor, Dr. Smith-Keiling, in developing conceptual tips and guides for students to utilize. These guides consisted of step-by-step solutions for essential calculations and multiple instructional videos on handling a Bio-Rad DuoFlow apparatus for column chromatography and performing a Bradford protein assay.

For 4 hours per week, I tutored 3-6 students in organic chemistry through individualized walk-in sessions. I enjoy teaching, but also learning; students often ask challenging questions that lead me to consider material from a different perspective. Furthermore, I implemented a nametag and labeling system for the organic chemistry tutors to use with their students.
