GMS aims to support site-based geotechnical engineering and geology departments through the supply of high-quality instrumentation and auxiliary geotechnical/geological services. Our focus is working with our valued clients to provide suitable field staff, independent QAQC programs and specialised services, tailored to the needs of your operation and business.GMS field services can assist with geotechnical core logging, drill rig supervision, geological/lithological core logging, drill core technician duties (mark-up, orientation, photography, core cutting, etc.), field technician duties (sampling, assisting with drill pad preparation, assistance with geophysical surveys, etc.) point load testing, sample selection and ability to conduct a full suite of rock property testing to suit your requirements. GMS can also complete offsite photo logging to fill data gaps and complete QA/QC of geotechnical logging data. Rig-side core logging can be conducted in remote locations using the GMS temperature controlled transportable logging container.Our Mine Services team provide support to site-based geotechnical engineers with auxiliary tasks that can get overlooked or pushed aside due to workloads or limited staff availability. GMS can assist your personnel by improving your site processes and providing the right kind of geotechnical functions required for your mine. Available for both short and long-term secondments, our mine services team specialise in ground support QAQC, supply and installation of geotechnical instrumentation and geotechnical core logging.

Kalgoorlie

I worked as an operational geotechnical engineer at Evolution Mining's Mungari Project 20km west of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia's goldfields region. The Mungari Project consists of the Frogs Leg Underground Mine and the Whitefoil Open Pit.My main duties included; seismic monitoring and analysis in a medium-high seismic environment (Ticker, Trace and Vantage), ground support design (static and dynamic), frequent underground inspections and monitoring, contractor management, geotechnical stope design and reconciliation, QAQC of ground support installation, geotechnical rock mass classification and weekly planning of geotechnical related activities underground. I also provided geotechnical operational guidance to the Whitefoil open pit as required.I also gained exposure to paste fill, numerical modelling, seismic system design and seismic system expansion.

Boddington Gold Mine

I worked as part of a seven person geotechnical team on an 8:6 roster at Newmont Boddington Gold (open pit).For the majority of my 18 months I have worked as the Geotechnical Engineer on my swing with a large focus on the operation of two large open pit mines. My main duties include; daily geotechnical pit inspections, the design of remediation field work plans, scheduling the weekly and three monthly geotechnical mine plans, scheduling and overseeing the ground support contractor works, daily radar and prism monitoring, wall control blast evaluations, ground control QAQC, rock fall investigations, waste dump inspections and mapping in the field and using Adam Technology. During my time at NBG I have also served as a safety representative and a member of the Emergency Response Team.

Kalgoorlie, Wa

I worked on a four person geotechnical team at La Mancha's Frogs Leg Gold Mine (underground).During my time I conducted many of the graduate geotechnical engineers duties including; underground inspections, data collection from geotechnical instrumentation, marking of brows, inspecting and maintaining brow and cable status reports, rock mass classification mapping of faces, locating and reporting of rocknoise report cards. I also assisted survey in conducting CMS's, did some underground geological and geotechnical mapping as well as initiating a Mathews Stability Project for the mine.

Victoria, Australia

Vaction Student based at the Stockman Project east of Omeo in Victoria. For the majority of the four month period I worked on a small four man crew reestablishing access into the old Wilga underground mine. My duties consisted of offsiding for the Jumbo and extending services as we rehabilitated the decline. I also completed a two week geotechnical mapping program of the decline after the rehab was completed.
