My responsibilities encompass planned preventative maintenance for the ship's hull and the management of the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, ensuring both structural integrity and crew comfort. Leading a skilled team, we collaborate to maintain the vessel's operational efficiency.In response to a shortage of personnel, I willingly took on additional roles and responsibilities, assuming the position of Petty Officer for the section, thereby adding the roles of Maintenance Planner and Manager to my workload.As part of my duties, I undertake watchkeeping responsibilities at sea, remaining vigilant 24/7 to respond to breakdowns and emergencies. This necessitates making critical decisions to ensure the safety of the crew and the ship's operational readiness. This multifaceted role has not only honed my technical skills but has also underscored the paramount importance of adaptability and teamwork in high-pressure maritime environments.I take pride in contributing to the Royal New Zealand Navy by ensuring HMNZS Te Mana's resilience and readiness, even in the face of unexpected challenges at sea.
