As a Machine Learning Intern at Stellantis, I contributed to the development of an advanced Driver Monitoring System aimed at enhancing road safety by detecting distracted driving. My role involved working on cutting-edge machine learning models and integrating them into real-world automotive systems.Key contributions included:1) Driver Monitoring System: Contributed to the design and implementation of a system that uses facial expression recognition to detect distracted drivers. This system actively alerts drivers to reduce the risk of accidents caused by inattention.2) Object Detection Model: Trained a YOLOv5-based object detection model to recognize subtle facial cues indicating distraction or drowsiness in various driving conditions. Achieved a 96.9% mean average precision (mAP) for a 3-class classification task.3) Sensor Integration: Integrated a magnetometer into the monitoring system to accurately determine vehicle direction, distinguishing between natural driving maneuvers and driver distraction. This enhancement reduced false alarms and increased the overall reliability of the system.4) Real-World Testing: Analyzed video data from city traffic scenarios to fine-tune the model, ensuring accurate detection in diverse driving environments.
