Asha J. Richards Email and Phone Number
I am a strong believer in "to whom much is given, much is expected," seeking to elevate and satisfy the needs of underprivileged communities locally, nationally, and globally.Growing up as a low-income, first-generation black American and college student, I learned to be a go-getter and self-starter from an early age, taking full advantage of the opportunities afforded to me. This drive is reflected in my many accomplishments and recent MPA degree from Columbia University, all by the age of 25. However, through my global experiences, including lived experience with family in rural Jamaica and a study abroad in Ghana, I am cognizant that these opportunities are not readily available for everyone. Additionally, despite being a low-income minority in the United States, my standard of living was significantly different from that of my family members in Jamaica. This motivated me to become an International Development Practitioner. Through my expertise in international development, diplomacy, public policy, advocacy, communications, and DE&I, I wish to advance development and social impact initiatives that minimize inequality and uplift marginalized communities, particularly in the Caribbean and Sub-Saharan Africa. As an early career professional, I have a strong social impact track record, through self-initiated advocacy campaigns, thought leadership through the Global Jamaica Diaspora Youth Council, and philanthropic initiatives through Virginia Wesleyan University's Caribbean Student Association (which I co-founded). I look forward to connecting and working with you to advance living standards, equality, and global development as a whole.
