Family has always been very important to me. I grew up on a farm in Quincy, Washington. Growing up, I loved competition and I found an outlet for that in sports. For everyone who knows me, I love to win—and I hate to lose! As I grew older, my competitive nature extended to school and then my career. After graduating from Central Washington University and then Cornell Law School, I was recruited by big law firms to work for big businesses. For 17 years I worked in a large business firm with attorneys in offices around the world. I was a high-stakes litigator, and I sued big businesses on behalf of other big businesses so that shareholders could have more profit. I was really good at it. But I felt more and more dissatisfied because I wasn’t really helping people. Because of that, I eventually opened my own firm so that I could help people.Family is important, so I focused on helping families. I have been married for almost 35 years and we have six children and ten grandchildren (so far!). When I opened my own firm, I started helping people who are going through the toughest times in their lives—divorce and child custody battles--and I developed an approach that is different than most attorneys. In our firm, we look to our clients’ futures, not just their past.I use my skills developed as a high-stakes business litigator to help families.
