Activities for LSAMP Scholars in the community with mentors who are close peers and chances to establish professional connections with professors with enrollment in a small, workshop-style session of specific science courses. Aids in additional funding for member's summer research internships.

Summer research Internship looking into the issue of water treatment by testing on landfill water leaking into usable water in New Bern, NC. Developed experience in the DR6000 Laboratory Spectrophotometer, the Parr Instrument Company Mini Benchtop Reactors, and other biological laboratory testing devices.

Assisted Dr. Claudia Parker in setting up and taking down experimental laboratory activities for General Chemistry I, General Chemistry II, and the Organic Chemistry laboratories. Learned chemical reactions on a hands-on level, organizational skills, time management skills, and the uses of basic chemical laboratory tools.

I participated in the NCSSM Biomedical Engineering online course, which introduced me to various biomedical engineering careers. I collaborated with in-person and online teams to design bio-medical products, such as a pacemaker, hip replacement, and medically adapted shoe soles. I researched scientific journals and peer-reviewed articles to write original scientific essays. In groups, we designed products collaboratively using OnShape, learned engineering software techniques, scientific design processes, hands-on experimentation, and the process behind group-written lab reports.
