As a mixed race makeup artist (african american and caucasian), I have not always been able to work in environments as I described above, which is why I push so hard to get these positions so that I can create this environment. I always say "we're so lucky to play dress up every day and get paid for it, we're not curing cancer so why can't our environment be one that harbors a safe space to grow".
