I worked with children with mental illness and behavioral issues, as well as their families, to develop skills that allow them to have a happy home life as well as develop coping skills and apply them real life difficult situations. I implemented a system of rewards for favorable behaviors and consequences for unfavorable ones coupled with discussing what lead to negative behaviors and how to handle them in future situations. I would often get the children, and sometimes other family members, involved in community service projects. This was successful in giving children responsibilities and building confidence in what they had accomplished.Other responsibilities included aiding children with their homework so that they could have success at school, and giving them the opportunity to build appropriate peer relationships in a closely monitored environment where I would praise positive behaviors and interactions and correct negative ones.I also worked with the children, and families, to learn to read nutritional labels and make healthy choices when purchasing food and beverages. The goal of this was to make sure children were getting proper nutrients, which would give them more natural energy, and in some cases weight loss which helped to build a better self image.

Mental Health Association

Worked in small groups with children with mental illness, behavioral issues and developmental disabilities to have a camp experience they may not have otherwise had. The small groups allowed the children to work on peer relationships as well as to build the skills to cope with stressful situations in an appropriate manner.
