I am passionate about working in the Human Services field, especially dealing with children with mental illness and developmental disabilities. I have a special gift for dealing with these children and their families and working with them to create a cohesive and respective life together. I have been told by supervisors and parents alike that I am patient and mild mannered which helps them to keep calm during trying times and shows the children how to calmly deal with a difficult situation. I am adventurous and love the outdoors, and try to teach the ones I work with that the outdoors can be very therapeutic in itself.Community service is also something that I am very passionate about. I have spent countless hours volunteering at a local food bank, a local community sustained farm, trash pick up at local parks and trails and spending quality time with animals at the local SPCA and Humane Society. Many of these volunteer hours were shared with the children I have worked with, as a means to show them that community service can be very rewarding and satisfying on multiple levels. I have even taken time out of my life to travel to the Dominican Republic to provide aid to impoverished Haitians living and working in sugar cane plantations. This experience was one of the most rewarding and eye opening experiences of my entire life, and if money was not a factor I would continue to go as often as possible.I have tried many different jobs in the 16 years that I have been working, from all of which I have gained invaluable experience and insight, but human services, in any capacity, is where my heart is.
