I taught (Fall 2020 & 2021) a course called "Globalization & Culture Change" (ANT 327). This course (which fulfills the University Studies Living in a Global Societycomponent) explored how processes of globalization and its effects are experiencedin local communities. It examined these processes and effects through variousthemes (e.g., economic development and underdevelopment, legacies ofcolonialism, immigration, transnational culture, market and meaning exchanges inmedia and the arts, and organized resistance to globalization).Additionally, I taught (Spring 2020 & 2021) a course called "The Immigrant Experience" (ANT 330). The Immigrant Experience was a cultural anthropology course that explored the complexities of contemporary immigration through ethnographic accounts, current research, and various theoretical frameworks. Throughout the semester, we examined the many motivations and factors that prompt international migration. We also considered cultural adaptations, ethical questions, humanitarian issues, and public policies as they pertain to immigration and resettlement.Ethnography, or writing about a people, is a research method that was the foundation of this course. Through reading the accounts of six ethnographers, we engaged with personal immigration stories, both in the U.S. and abroad, the concept of “belonging” in global communities, and we developed a deeper understanding of policies, labor, and legality (especially pertaining to U.S./Mexico border). We also critiqued the readings in terms of content and style. However, most importantly, the readings provided us with rare insights into the lived experiences of immigrants around the world.

• Provided resources, support, and employment-related leads to a caseload of job seekers.• Partnered with staff and volunteers to conduct comprehensive job readiness training(s).• Conducted monthly outreach to community partners to increase awareness of StepUp Wilmington’s programs and initiatives.• Maintained excellent records, via Salesforce, of all interactions with candidates.

• Served as a proposal manager for the development of high-quality proposals for government and institutional donors.• Monitored the donor landscape, maintained detailed knowledge of donor environment, and funding mechanisms.• Maintained an up-to-date record(s) of the requirements of current and potential regional donors.• Spearheaded all monitoring and evaluative practices pertaining to funding progress reports.

• Managed a program, funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement, that provided refugee and asylee microentrepreneurs with financial literacy training, business development skills, and access to capital.• Reviewed and monitored project progress and prepared quarterly reports for ORR, which detailed program activities and program status.• Collaborated with EDG staff to develop strategic initiatives that would improve the quality and scope of financial inclusion opportunities.• Drafted and submitted funding proposals to supplement ORR funds within EDG.

As part of a course and along with a team of fellow graduate students, (all of whom studied International Development at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)), an extensive literature review was conducted. Moreover, current and previous coordinators and Information Management Officers (IMOs) were interviewed to identify possible reasons for turnover among staff in the Child Protection Area of Responsibility (AoR). Our findings were published in a report that will serve to inform certain programmatic and/or policy changes pertaining to relevant areas within UNICEF.

• Managed three farmers’ markets in the District of Columbia and Virginia.• Coordinated and oversaw the Jean Wallace Douglas Farmer Fund, which provided $27,000 in small grants to farmers (on the front-line of alternative agriculture) that enabled access to important technical training, connections to professional networks, and fellow farmers and artisans.

• Provided intensive, in-home case management to thirteen formerly homeless families (in a scattered-site, permanent supportive housing program).• Engaged and collaborated with clients to develop goals and service plans for housing stability, mental health and substance abuse concerns, health and wellness, and vocation and education.• Acted as a liaison and advocate with landlords, community agencies, and other service providers to promote the success of clients (and ensure clients were receiving high-quality services to meet their needs).

• Recruited and maintained a caseload of forty homeless families in Southeast, District of Columbia each fiscal year.• Facilitated goal planning with clients; provided clients with all necessary resources, information, and support to achieve their goals; acted as an interagency liaison between clients and various organizations related to finding, obtaining, and maintaining housing.
