I perform complex research techniques & procedures on grant-supported projects in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology & Neuroscience at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. I conduct experiments using behavioral, molecular, and physiological techniques. My work has lead to the development of a novel dopamine-driven in vitro model for inducing morphological, molecular, and functional alterations in astrocytes sourced from rat neonate hippocampi.As a graduate student, my courses and lab work have enabled me to gain technical knowledge and skills in viral injection techniques and other stereotaxic surgeries (i.e., implantation of cannula), immunohistochemical and immunocytochemical assays, RNA extraction and RT-qPCR, Western Blotting, calcium imaging techniques, operant conditioning in drug self-administration, and approaches to image collection in advanced microscopy.Further, these experiences provided me with the knowledge necessary to establish several protocols (SOPs) for the development of primary astrocyte cultures, immunocytochemical and immunohistochemical staining, as well as, collection and analyses of imaging data.

Laboratory responsibilities included ordering laboratory supplies, maintaining financial records, and complying to laboratory safety standards. Also performed animal surgeries and carried out behavioral conditioning.

Served as lab instructor for Anatomy & Physiology II for Fall 2017 semester. Developed a comprehensive, hands-on learning environment through familiarizing students with gross anatomy of nervous, cardiovascular, digestive, and muscular systems. Graded exams and assignments, developed quizzes, and provided constructive feedback.

Completed course work necessary for biomedical program (neuroscience concentration) requirements. Completed two rotations in electrophysiology labs under the mentorship of Dr. David Mott and Dr. Pavel Ortinski. My lab experience with Dr. Mott entailed my learning to investigate electrophysiological properties of CA1 pyramidal cells along the hippocampal longitudinal axis. My rotation in Dr. Ortinski's lab allowed me to learn primary cell culture techniques, along with immunocytochemical techniques for imaging analysis.

Worked as an office assistant and lab assistant in the department of Foreign Languages at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. I carried out basic departmental office tasks, and also provided tutoring, proctored exams, and gained some experience in teaching beginners level Spanish.

Worked in a language laboratory to provide tutoring for students studying foreign language(s). Provided guidance and feedback on assignments. Helped introduce a new online learning system.
