As 1st Line Desktop Support I have a wide array of tasks to be completed throughout my working day. Most of my tasks will revolve around our central inbox and phone system, which is where requests and incidents will be collected. When an email comes into the inbox, it's my job to analyse the issue or request to see what can be done. If I can fix it myself, I will contact the user and assist them either via phone, email or instant message. If the issue is going to take too long or needs to be escalated to another member of staff, I will be able to delegate the task to them with a ticket.This line of work requires good team work and personal skills, as well as good time management in order for ticketing to be logged effectively. We have a team of 15, each of whom have their own specialities.

I was required to have knowledge of current and upcoming movies, replenish stock, collect returned films and call those who had failed to return movies at the correct time.I would keep my knowledge up to date with the offer given to staff, which was the ability to rent 10 films or games per week. I would use this to rent movies and games that had just been released as to have an up to date knowledge of their content and so I could let customers my opinion on whether it's a good rental/purchase choice.The team size was 6 staff overall, though at most 3 would be working at any given time. This would mean that the duties would be split up between us for the day and we would need to have the store ready for the next shift.

Being a sales assistant entailed that I be up to date with current merchandise, know my individual sales target and try to achieve and exceed it, and be approachable to customers entering the store, which helped a lot with my interpersonal skills. The team size that worked on that site was 10 members of staff, each of whom had specialisations in each of their departments. When I first started the job I had a great knowledge of computers TV's, cameras and games but didn't have the best knowledge of white goods and household appliances, though through communication with colleagues and studying I managed to gain a great knowledge of everything within the store.
