My name is Ashley Alvarez and I am a Junior at Lehman College majoring in Therapeutic Recreation. For over three years I have been working with Animals to both pay for school and also to implement it into my future career in Therapeutic Recreation, such as Pet Therapy. Since the year 2021 I have been studying to become a Certified Recreational Therapist with an interest in working in Pediatrics and Geriatrics. In relation to Geriatrics, I volunteered at a Skilled Nursing Facility for the entirety of my Senior year of High School. The main floor I worked on was the Special Care unit where patients who struggled with dementia resided. That position had taught me how to manage my time, provide enriching experiences and activities, and companionship for many residents. At my current job, I work alongside an Enrichment Coordinator and often with put together programs, activities, and other enrichment for over 100 dogs in the Shelter. Working in these two fast paced environments that have a focus on enrichment will prepare me for my future endeavors.
