About Ashley Castelino

I am currently pursuing a DPhil in English at the University of Oxford with a project titled 'Extraordinary Dogs and their Function in Old Norse-Icelandic Literature', generously funded by the AHRC Open-Oxford-Cambridge Doctoral Training Partnership and a Lincoln College Kingsgate Scholarship.I previously completed an MPhil in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at the University of Cambridge, and a BA in English Literature and History at Durham University with first-class honours. In academia, I am passionate about all things medieval, particularly Old Norse, Old English, and Middle English language and literature, as well as interdisciplinary research on Scandinavia and Britain during the Middle Ages. Besides medieval research, I have had my attention drawn to various others periods of study - from Homer to Shakespeare to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in literature, and from ancient Greece to colonial India to modern Spain in history.Outside academia, I am also passionate about teaching English as a second language. I have had extensive experience teaching English at all levels and ages, including planning lessons and designing teaching materials, and am CELTA- and TESOL-certified.
