Hi! I am a linguistic and medical anthropologist interested in how people communicate for & about their own health. As a graduate instructional assistant, I have experience leading classrooms in discussion about my field, but am also passionate about developing inclusive and innovative pedagogy, including ways of reaching learners and audiences excluded by academia. To this end, I am a host on the New Books in Anthropology podcast in the New Books Network and will begin interviewing authors on their publications! I have experience leading discussion sections for cultural anthropology as well as labs for biological anthropology. I am currently expanding my own research skills in preparation for long term fieldwork through the Ethnography Collective @ UMass- Ethnographic Research Certification. I pursued expanding my teaching abilities, breaking my own expectations, and learning skills through certifications at the University of South Carolina’s Center for Teaching Excellence. As a researcher, I strive to investigate how social determinants and language affect how people view and access care, and the idea of what is considered disease, care, and compliance, specifically in the context of housing insecurity and drug use.
