My vocational training in Refractories at Durgapur Steel Plant during my course to graduation in Ceramic Engineering laid the foundation of my exclusive involvement with Refractories and Furnace Technology as well as Insulation. The fact remains that no furnace or heating/melting/ hot processing equipment or hot material carrying system can be built without refractory materials and no operation involving these equipments & systems can be affordable without insulation. My basic qualification in Ceramic Engineering harnessed my ability in later years of my professional career to understand, analyse & participate in different processes at various places in my career to perform effectively & discharge my responsibilities excellently. The latest case to illustrate this advantage is my assignment with Reliance Petroleum, where I could perform very easily in not only getting the supplies of rock-wool insulation materials viz. Slabs, LRB Mattresses & Pipe Sections as per dispatch schedule, but also maintaining without any compromise various quality standards laid down for the items of supply.When it comes to furnace designing, the following determinants play very significant role.•The capacity (The quantity of melt required)per 24 hrs•The heat requirement in terms of calories per unit time for melting (based on chemical composition of batch materials)•The degree or extent of Insulation applied.•The choice of heat recovery system viz. regeneration or recuperation.•Allowance of unavoidable heat losses by way of conduction, convection and radiation.•The type of fuel used-Solid, Liquid or Gaseous•The calorific value of the specific fuel chosen for operations•The efficiency of the fuel combustion system and equipments.•Finally, the selection of right type of refractory & insulation materialsSpecialties: Ceramic, Glass , Engineeing , Refractory, Furnace designing , Petroleum, Insulation , insulation materials
