About Ashwin Kamlani
I've built a career out of understanding the struggles and challenges that an industry faces, and using technology to solve those problems. It's a combination of product vision, business development, marketing and PR. When I build a company, I surround myself with talented developers who can take that product vision and build it efficiently, so that I can work with a team of people to take it to market. I also believe in an unparalleled level of customer success, and I've had the good fortune of working with those who share that belief.I started out learning about technology from Accenture and PwC in the late 90s, and after realizing that my heart was in hospitality, I attended the Masters program at the Cornell Hotel School. After the attacks of 9-11 rocked the hospitality industry during my first week at Cornell, I pursued a career with Melia Hotels & Resorts. I started as an unpaid intern, and worked my way up to become the Global VP of E-commerce, Loyalty & Distribution. My time at Melia taught me all about how to combine a strong digital user experience with the right digital marketing strategy, loyalty program, pricing and promotions, and 3rd party distribution partnerships to grow online revenues that exceeded 250M Euros. In 2010, I started my own business to help other hotel companies grow their revenues from digital channels. In 2016, we were acquired by a large loyalty firm after growing our online bookings to $40M. I worked with our acquirer for 5 years, building a loyalty points marketplace. In 2021, the restaurant industry was going through exactly the same evolution that hotels went through 20 years earlier, and JUICER was born. Our mission was to build the future of revenue management together with forward thinking restaurant companies. As a leader, I build companies based on transparency and trust. As an advisory board member of the Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship, I have actively contributed in the ideation and planning of how to help Cornell University provide more value to students who want to become entrepreneurs.🟢 Thought Leadership🟢 Mentoring🟢 AdvisoryI have also acted as a judge in pitch deck and business plan competitions, spoken on industry roundtables about entrepreneurship and innovation, and had mentoring discussions with students about their entrepreneurial endeavors or careers. The restaurant industry is facing a challenging environment in which food and labor costs remain high, and consumers are simultaneously pushing back on higher prices. Navigating the narrowing gap between cost pressures and consumer price sensitivity has never been more difficult. The complexity of becoming a multi-channel industry with the growth of 3rd party delivery, and direct consumer communications through newly established loyalty programs, requires a much more sophisticated approach to data-driven decision making.JUICER Compete:JUICER works with some of the largest QSR and Fast Casual brands to provide competitive intelligence around menu pricing and promotions. Spot checking the competition’s menu prices with Excel spreadsheets is no longer sufficient. Some companies are spending money buying messy scraped data files, and then cannot derive useful insights from them. With Compete, JUICER captures, cleanses, maps and presents easily-digestible competitive pricing and promotion data for competitors within a 2 mile radius of every store. Brands and franchisees get access to a dashboard and proactive alerts comparing their menus to their local competitors at each location. Access to reports and alerts can be customized at the corporate and franchisee level. AI analyzes and evaluates value meals and bundles to ensure that each restaurant location is correctly positioned in their local market.
Evp Corporate And Business Development
After Kognitiv acquired my company, Regatta Travel Solutions, I served the company for 5 years in an executive role helping stabilize the culture through a series of acquisitions, and to grow the loyalty solutions business within travel, hospitality, banking and retail.🟢 Strategic Planning🟢 Business Development🟢 Partnership Strategy🟢 Mergers and Acquisitions🟢 Company Culture and Team BuildingMy company, Regatta Travel Solutions, was the second company to be acquired by Kognitiv. By June 2021, they had acquired seven others. It can be difficult to merge two companies together. Merging nine companies is bound to have its challenges. But as the organization grew from 50 to over 600 people, I worked hard behind the scenes to keep employee morale high and to bridge the gaps between the founders, their teams, and the various corporate cultures that suddenly found themselves thrown together. From a business development standpoint, I signed the company’s first major dynamic packaging contract with a leading European hotel and resort chain. As the company wanted to evolve into a loyalty business, I set up meetings with C Level executives at major hotel and resort chains. When it was time to expand beyond the travel vertical, I opened the door and set up meetings with high profile companies like Citibank and LVMH in New York, and Target in Minneapolis. It was important to keep our message clear and consistent. I was an active contributor to core ideation meetings and discussions, and worked with the Chairman to craft descriptions of our company and business model that could be digested both internally and externally. I also identified several key partnership and acquisition opportunities, acted as the executive sponsor in sales meetings and ensured customer success for key accounts.

I was asked by ICE Portal's founder, Henry Woodman, to join the Advisory Board as the subject matter expert for independent hotels, Latin American and Caribbean markets, and Destination Management Organizations. I served on the board until their acquisition by Shiji in February, 2019.🟢 Subject Matter Expert🟢 Business Advisory🟢 Corporate Strategy
Founder And Ceo
Regatta Travel Solutions was a bootstrapped SaaS business that quickly gained recognition as the most innovative hotel reservations software in a crowded space. The company was acquired by Kognitiv in August 2016.🟢 Strategic Planning and Execution🟢 Digital Product Innovation🟢 Business and Partnership Development🟢 B2B and B2C Digital User Experience🟢 B2B Product Marketing🟢 Full P&L Ownership🟢 Company Culture and Team Building🟢 EntrepreneurshipI founded Regatta after recognizing that the hotel reservations platforms available were mediocre at best. After developing a prototype, I pitched over 100 hotels in Miami until I found a pilot property to test our software. We changed their business within 3 weeks, doubling their average daily rate and extending booking lead times from 24 hours to more than 14 days. With one success story, I started signing at least one hotel per month and after year 1, I hired my first employee. In early 2011, we won a contract with the Barbados Hotel & Tourism Association to build a multi-property engine for the entire country. We also signed our first major hotel chain, Palace Resorts. By 2016, we had built a stellar team and were generating more than $30M in bookings on more than 30 official destination websites. The company culture of transparency and collaborative camaraderie that we had is what I am most proud of.The true success of Regatta was the market leading functionality, which was copied by billion dollar competitors. We did this by fostering deep relationships with our customers, understanding their business challenges, and coming up with creative solutions to solve them. In 2015, we were approached by five different companies about an acquisition and sold the business to Kognitiv in August 2016.
Ceo
About Travel Inc was the parent company of AboutAnywhere.com, the first low-cost Online Travel Agency. I was hired as CEO in May 2008.🟢 Strategic Planning and Execution🟢 Digital Product Innovation🟢 B2B and B2C Digital User Experience🟢 Company Culture and Team Building🟢 Full P&L Ownership🟢 Thought LeadershipIn April 2008 while working for Meliá Hotels & Resorts in Palma de Mallorca, I met an investor and entrepreneur who had a desire to launch a travel related start up. He hired me to move back to Miami, hire a team and run the entire operation as CEO of AboutAnywhere.com. I was charged with experimenting with a variety of business models in attempt to find one that could scale quickly and generate a profit.I learned how to run a business as I led all critical business functions, from product development, to marketing and sales, staff development, training, coaching and building high-performance teams. I also led communications with investors and stakeholders to keep them apprised of company performance. In January 2010, I decided that it was time for me to start my own business.
Global Vp Distribution And E-Commerce
My career at Meliá evolved from an unpaid internship to Global VP of Distribution and E-Commerce over a span of 5 years. I was responsible for over 250M Euros in online and call center revenue.🟢 Strategic Planning and Execution🟢 Digital Transformation🟢 P&L Ownership🟢 Revenue Management Strategy🟢 B2B and B2C Digital User Experience🟢 Company Culture and Team BuildingShortly after 9/11/2001, I offered to pay for my own flight for an unpaid winter internship with a Meliá resort in Mexico. I taught the team about online agencies like Expedia and implemented online marketing strategies resulting in a boost in reservations. I continued as an unpaid intern for the next 18 months during my school breaks in Miami and Mallorca, and while studying abroad in Paris. In June, 2003 I started as Director of E-Commerce after completing my Masters and built out a team. We implemented ideas and strategies around product (adapting our website to the US market), had full ownership of a multimillion-dollar marketing budget and introduced revenue management pricing practices across all digital channels including online travel agencies. In 2004 I was promoted to VP of Distribution and was given ownership of call center and loyalty program operations. The role required extensive internal education, ensuring that everyone from company executives to hotel sales staff understood the importance and results of our work. The shift to e-commerce from traditional offline channels was a radical one and required a great deal of diplomacy to grow new lines of revenue without alienating the existing ones.In 2006 I was promoted to Global VP of E-Commerce and Distribution and transferred to the company’s headquarters in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. The Chairman, Gabriel Escarrer, asked me to implement my team's culture, philosophy and strategy worldwide. We grew the revenue from online channels to more than 250 Million Euros, representing more than 10% of the company's overall revenues.
Senior Associate
Joined a new e-commerce consulting practice within the Global Risk Management Solutions (GRMS) practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Many companies realized that they needed to reinvent themselves and develop e-commerce strategies. Clients included Corning, Mars Corporation, and Sprint. While at PwC, I developed a relationship with Bjorn Hanson, a PwC partner and recognized thought leader in the hospitality industry who wrote my recommendation for the Masters program at the Cornell School of Hospitality Administration.
Technology Analyst
Helped Fortune 100 clients overcome their fear of large-scale technological change. As part of my Consulting and Change Management role, I taught clients how to use newly implemented ERP systems including SAP, and demonstrated the full range of their capabilities in a way that could be easily understood by staff at all levels. Clients included Eastman Kodak, Sharp Electronics, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Chase.
