store buyer for the hillcrest flagship branch. replenishing of all departments in groceries; perishables, this included at that point in time: edible goods, personal care, homeware, confectionary, liquor, bakery and hotfoods stock, basically everything except the fruit & veg, meat and major promotional stock and discount buys by senior buyers in the chain. Was an experience straight out of ukzn that I hit hard, placing over a 100 orders a week, think about the paperwork alone, and then checking if they came in at the right prices negotiated with the supplier. Also still always assisting the receiving department and liquor store, ensuring all the correct stock enters the business, helping with grvs still yes. strategising also key areas in promotional items between consumer preference and willingness to buy. This was a slick skill to learn, taking a chance on purchasing a bit extra or alot extra, and watching it sell. Then learning those trends and doing it consistently, through group effort and good leadership stores profits were breaking records daily. overall I had been given the opportunity to and i took it, entering the retail sector of the economy at the grass roots in the receiving department and worked my way substantially up the chain to being a store buyer within 8 months. will always give thanks to the team at Oxford for everything I learnt and being able to have been apart of a great team.

All buying administration duties were learned and inhabited within two months. From the changing of selling prices , and loading of promotions. To the listing of new products, maintenance of existing products as well as creating of recipes for service departments within retail.Also monitored and updated selling prices with costs and gross profit margins attainable per product in relevant sectors. i.e commodities, liquor, seafood, groceries, perishables etc.

Ensuring all grvs are captured, processed and batched. Ensuring correct stock is entered into the business for trading. Managing control over the swift receipt of goods to ensure a free flow of the business and healthy relationships with suppliers.retail always needs it's stock on the floor to sell as fast as possible. that's the way i learnt it, overall I grew fast with knowledge and contact with people, as well as systems operations, and basic business acumen to make a profit was seen.
