About Joy Atkinson

Hi there!I have been working in hospitality for about a decade and a half now, the majority of which has been spent in high volume bars and restaurants in London. It is something I care deeply about, and one of my favourite things to do in my spare time is to go out to a restaurant and experience the hospitality there,Over the years I have gained a lot of experience and have deliberately tried to mix things up a bit so I can have a broader idea of the industry.     In my role of supervisor my duties included: • Running the floor area within the large bar which held mostly diners but also drinkers. I initiated an order of service and organised the set-up to achieve the optimum performance.• All levels of customer service.• I was trained in basic cocktail-making skills and was featured as the guest bartender at one of the bars, which meant my drinks were sold for a month.• I also did several shifts each week as Maitre d’ where I would be responsible for the smooth running of each service where we could be seating up to 300 people. I would have to organise the reservations and ensure that everyone was seated on time and happy. This included a full knowledge of ‘OpenTable’.• Reception tasks inclusive of answering the phone, responding to emails, making reservations and handling large party bookings where there was special requirements and deposits taken.• I handled some of the HR for the site and some additional admin such as ensuring there was a comprehensive database of all the products we stocked.• I was heavily involved in a training scheme I came up with, during which I gave talks on different products and I created visual representations of the information which was then displayed around the building.• Hawksmoor are very keen themselves in training and during this job I experienced a lot; some in wine (I earned my WSET,) in spirits and in food.
