I get the most out of turning this operational work into dashboards that run our business.At Yahoo, I managed partnerships with over 30 Data Vendors. The remit here was very broad: coaching partners on tech integrations, working with BD on our strategic mix of partners, with Finance to manage the cost budget, with Sales & Product to claim Cost Savings, and with Yield to monitor profitability. The best part of this broad remit was to make me the glue that joined a wide range of different teams and be known as the Data Targeting expert. I was suited to this because my abilities also stretch this broadly.The earlier years of this role focused on organizing our partners' data taxonomies through constant communication and persuasion because their data is inherently complex. My goal here has always been to absorb the complexity so that the data became simple for our sales and account management teams.One key goal was ensuring our partners were paid correctly to make sure that Yahoo had a bedrock for its Targeting business. I used my reliability and attention to detail to get this correct, on time, every time for 8 years despite constant change.It’s important to me to level up operational work. I first mined the metrics from all of our partnerships to build models including Scoring partnership value, Cost forecasting and a Targeting newsletter. I was able to expand this role to report on our wider Data Solutions division’s performance and value, leading to presentations to the entire team and to the Head of Sales. The most rewarding part of this is that I see a direct influence of the visualizations I produce on management decisions.
