Since the late 1970s, Alex Wilson has been a writer on topics of green building, energy efficiency, building technology, renewable energy, and the environment. He served for many years as Executive Editor of "Environmental Building News," and the GreenSpec Directory, published by BuildingGreen, Inc. He is the author of "Your Green Home" (New Society Publishers, 2006); coauthor "Consumer Guide to Home Energy Savings" (American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy, 10th edition, 2013) and "Green Development: Integrating Ecology and Real Estate" (John Wiley & Sons, 1998). He is also co-author or a series of four Quiet Water Canoe and Kayak Guides for the Appalachian Mountain Club.Alex and his wife live in southern Vermont on a 160-acre farm that he is working to bring back into agricultural production. In January 2014 they moved into the heavily renovated farmhouse, which operates on a net-zero-energy basis, powered by a solar array on their restored 1812 barn. The solar array provides enough electricity to also power their plug-in hybrid car, which they use for the vast majority of their local driving.
